Friderici,

Geverd, Christian was a private in 2nd Company, Fusilier Regiment von Ditfurth. Christian Geverd (aka Keavort / Keefer / Keever / Giebert / Gefert / Gevard / Geaverd) from Völkershausen, Hessen (near Eschwege / Wanfried). He was born 5 March 1752 with the given name Johann Henrich Christian Kiefer, son of Elizabetha Wigand and Heinrich Kiefer, a soldier in the Prinz Maximillion Infantry Regiment. His brother Henrich was in the 5th Company of the same regiment (see Henry KEEVER below). Christian deserted the Hessian line while on patrol to Dorchester just outside of Charleston, South Carolina on 26 October 1781 shortly after Cornwallis' surrender at Yorktown. Christian (recorded as GIEBERT in HETRINA) found his way to Philadelphia, PA where he took the Oath of Allegience before Judge Plunkett Fleeson on 14 August 1782 (recorded as KEAVORT / KEAVERT). He settled in Passyunk Township, the farmland immediately south of center city Philadelphia. He married Martha Lafferty in 1788.

Goldeiss, Johann Philip was a member of the Ansbach-Bayreuth contingent. He was a Gemeiner (Private) in the Leibkompanie of the Ansbach
Regiment. The Regiment was commanded from its arrival in June 1777 by Obrist (Colonel) Friederick Ludwig Albrecht von Eyb until May 1778 when Obrist August Valentin von Voit von Salzburg transferred from the Bayreuth Regiment to command.
He was taken as POW in Oct 1781, marched first to Winchester VA then to Frederick, MD--when war ended marched to NY to leave for Europe. It looks like Phillip Goldeiss returned to New York from Prisoner of War status at Frederick MD when the POWs were released and was present at the passe en revue covering the reporting period 25 Dec 1782-24 June 1783.
Goldeiss should have embarked with the other returned POWS; however, he does not show up on the disembarkation muster in Sep 1783 in Germany.
Philip (Goldeiss) Goldizen married Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) ca 1783, probably in Pennsylvania. By 1830, they were living in Hardy Co VA/WV (which became Grant Co), ending up in the Jordan Run area where many of his descendants live today.

Philadelphia, as having taken the Oath of Allegiance to the State of
Pennsylvania on 05 Nov 1782. He later married a Julianna DUPS/TOOPS of

Petzinger,
Johannes; was born in Dudenhofen in 1751
and was a cannonier in the Hessian-Hanau
Artillery Company. He was sent to Bennington, Vermont with one of
the two Hanau cannons that accompanied the
German force led by Lt. Col. Baum in their unsuccessful attempt to obtain
supplies for Burgoyne's army. Johannes was captured in Bennington
and spent the rest of the war in Massachusetts. In 1783 John
Petsinger married Rhoda French of Westhampton and they raised a family.
The family name has evolved from Petzinger
through Petsinger, Pitsinger to Pittsinger. My article about
Johannes was published in the Journal of the Johannes Schwalm

a book containing information on all branches of John and Rhoda's

ZEILMANN,
Johann Ludwig, was born at Erlangen, Bavaria on 28 May 1751, son of Gabriel Lorenz and Maximiliana Zeilmann. He was christened at the Lutheran Church of Eglangen-Neustadt on 31 May 1751, godfather Johann Ludwig Meyer. He was a hutmacher (hatter) and served from 1775-1779 in the imperial army. He entered the Hesse-Hanau Chasseurs on 8 February 1779 according to his military files at the University of Marburg. Promoted to Corporal on 1 November 1780. He received his honorable discharge in Quebec City in July of 1783 and disappeared from Canadian records. He is found in the mid-1780's in the congregation of the First Lutheran Church of Albany, NY. He was a hatter in Albany and appears on a list of Freeholders from 1797. He married Dorothea Roller, daughter of Andreas Roller of Oeschelbronn, Wuerttemburg and Tryon County, NY. Andreas was in the Second Battalion of the Tryon County Militia in the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. Johann and Dorothea had children in Albany, NY and Stone Arabia, Tryon/Montgomery County, NY; I am descended from his son Johann Antonius (John Anthony) Zeilman of Albany. The marriage of a Hessian soldier to the daughter of an American Revolution patriot may seem odd, but I suspect that the common bonds of ethnicity, religion and language trumped their having been on opposite sides of the war. John Anthony Zeilman later married Elizabeth Luther, daughter of John Luther of Albany, NY, another Revolutionary War soldier and the husband of Elizabetha Roller, another daughter of Andreas Roller and his wife Rebecca.
Thanks go to the late John Helmut Merz for his early assistance, and to Sabine Schleichert of Munich, who conducted research in Germany for me.
